Having a stuffed-up nose can make you feel really uncomfortable. It can make your breathing really uncomfortable and can also cause headaches, which can keep you awake at night. 

A lot of people think that all of this discomfort is due to excess mucus. However, the congestion is basically caused by swollen blood vessels present in the sinuses. 

Whenever a virus or n allergen stimulates the nose, the blood flow is increased in the large blood vessels that are lining the nasal cavity. 1- Nasal Irrigation

Nasal irrigation is rinsing the nasal passages using a device called a neti pot. It can help in losing the thick mucus and removing all the germs and allergens. A neti pot is really safe to be sued when you fill it with distilled water or sterile water.

It is never recommended to use tap water or mineral water. Tap water can only be used if it is previously boiled and cooled down. There are some directions that need to be followed while using a neti pot. 

  • Fill the pot with a saline solution that is made by adding salts and warm sterile water.
  • Now, find a sink to lean over to and tilt your head sideways. Your forehead and chin must be leveled in order to avoid liquid flowing outside your mouth. 
  • Take the help of the spout of the neti pot and insert it in your upper nostril. You can do this while breathing through your nose.
  • Breathe through your mouth so you can drain the liquid through the lower nostril.
  • Repeat the same for the other side. 

2- Use a Natural Decongestant

Cold-bursting vitamin C can help ease congestion. Vitamin C helps in decreasing the severity of the symptoms by increasing the immunity of the system. 

It can be really helpful if the congestion that you are facing is related to the cold. Popping vitamin C can always help in making you feel better.                

Ginger is also one of those ingredients that can help you deal with colds and allergies also eradicating stuffed nose and congestion. It can be used in the form of tea. It has both anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory properties that can help in making you feel better but that doesn’t mean you should be dependent on it entirely.

3- Add Moisture to the Air

Adding moisture or a cool mist to your home is a simple and effective way to reduce nasal congestion. Breathing in humid air can help in soothing irritated nasal tissue, lessening sinus inflammation, and thinning mucus which helps it in draining. 

The easiest solution to it is the use of cool mist machines or warm mist as both are equally effective. For rising the humidity levels and relieving congestion. But for safety reasons, it is recommended to use cool mist vaporizers when it comes o children. Warm mist or team can burn a child if he gets too close to the machine and can get themself hurt.

Whatever it is that you use, it is important to change the water daily and clean the unit according to the instructions given. 

4- Take a Hot Shower

You must have noticed that when a person takes a hot shower it can make them feel like a new person. This is because if you have a hot shower the steam can reduce the sinus pain and pressure built there helping the music to drain. 

Now, this can help in bringing your breathing to normal at least for some time. To get the steamy effect, you can also help yourself by breathing n the steam created in the sink of hot water. This can be done simply by running hot water in the bathroom sink and placing a towel on your head. You can then put your head over the sink and can breathe in slowly. Do not get too close, as you can burn your skin. It is safe to do this several times a day. 

5- Use a Warm Compress

You can always use a warm compress if you have a sinus headache song with a clogged nose and congestion. You can try and place a warm compress over your nose and forehead to ease the comfort. 

A warm compress product can be purchased and can be microwaved or you can simply use a piece of cloth with warm water, squeeze the water after dipping the cloth and place it on your nose, cheeks, and forehead. Repeat it if needed.
